I saw this week where the Los Angeles Dodgers, World Series Champions, were honored with a visit to the White House and greeted by the President. It’s kind of a tradition for champions, be it collegiate, pro or Olympic to be recognized as the best of the best. We celebrate blue ribbons, principal’s honor roles, home runs, American Idols, and more. It’s easy to confuse human excellence with human value. God never does. In fact, God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not —to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. (1 Corinthians 1:27-29) That’s why Jesus says it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest. (Luke 9:48) This is not an invitation to strive to become the worst of all baseball players (though I might qualify) it is the heart of Father God who values each, great and small, offering forgiveness through the sacrificial death of His Son, Jesus. So whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. (Colossians 3:17) PK
