Today is Ash Wednesday, which marks the 40 day journey during which disciples of Jesus follow his steps to his sacrificial death and his victorious resurrection: Easter! It’s a reminder of our need for Jesus ever since the consequences our Genesis fall: (Genesis 3:19) By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.” Jesus joined us in the dust to break the curse and offer life. Jesus specializes in gathering in his hand the dust that chokes our hope, blinds our faith and creates life! John 9:6-7 he [Jesus] spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing. There’s no measure to what Jesus can create out of dust. PK
